Appointments

Our GP practice currently operates a triage system.

We have been instructed by NHS England (as have all GP surgeries nationally) to adopt a ‘triage first’ system. This recommends that we triage – or phone back – every patient who wants advice from a nurse, doctor or other healthcare professional.

If you require on the day urgent care for acute illness. Patients are requested to phone before 11am, to be added to the Duty triage list, where the duty team will assess and call the Patient.

If you have an ongoing concern and wish to see the GP, this will be a routine appointment. Routine GP appointments are released everyday after 2pm for two weeks ahead. Patients will need to call or come to the surgery to book after this time. Please note the reception team do not know what appointments are available or which GPs will be released.

We do not take prescriptions over the telephone.

When calling the surgery

Option 1 – to cancel appointments only.

Option 2 – after 2pm to book routine GP/ Nurse appointments/ results and other admin enquiries

Option 3 – before 11am – same day triage appointment for urgent or acute illness to discuss with the Duty team

Types of Appointments

We currently do not offer emergency or walk-in appointments

GP Appointments

We have an experienced clinical team of GPs  who will assess all requests for support and guide you to the right course of action. Appointments can be by phone, by video link, or we may ask you to come to the surgery.

Nursing Team Appointments

We have a multidisciplinary practice nurse team of Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Phlebotomists, who provide a range of services for chronic conditions, investigations, travel health, immunisations, contraception and screening.

Community Pharmacy Appointments

When you call the practice, you will be asked about your symptoms. This is so the surgery will be able to give you the correct advice.

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals and experts in medicines.

They can offer clinical advice and over-the-counter medicines for all sorts of minor illnesses, and a same day consultation can be arranged quickly and at a time to suit you.

This frees up GP appointments for those people with more complex symptoms who need to see a GP.

Minor Eye Conditions Appointments

If you are experiencing symptoms such as:

Red eyes/eyelids; dry eye, or gritty and uncomfortable eyes; irritation and inflammation of the eye; significant recent sticky discharge from the eye or watery eye; recently occurring flashes or floaters; in-growing eyelashes; or a foreign body in the eye

Then we may advise you to contact a local optometrist for a specialist appointment so you can be assessed and treated. Consultations may take place via telephone, video or face-to-face.

How to Cancel an Appointment

Home Visits

We encourage patients to attend the surgery, if at all possible, as it offers better facilities when examinations are required.

If you are too unwell to attend, please call our reception team before 10.30am and we will take the details and ask the Doctor to phone you to further assess your clinical needs.

Patients will be visited as soon as possible, and prioritised according to clinical need. Some home visits may be carried out by our experienced community paramedics, who work across our PCN (also providing visits for Alma Road and North Baddesley surgeries) under the supervision of our GPs.
